ARIANA BOUSSARD-REIFEL | Erosion Ring | Brass
The Erosion Ring reminds us of what once was. A supple disc that has been ellipsed by emptiness. The carved away notches make space for your fingers and for an exquisitely comfortable fit.
Born from these tumultuous times, the Riptide collection by Ariana Bussard- Reifel, embodies the extremely strong, unpredictable currents that flow through our everyday. Inspired by the patient erosion of water over stone as well as the persistent buoyancy of seaweed bulbs in tidal waters, this collection walks the tightrope of calm and chaos.
Take a moment to dive into these pieces and let their forms flow over you, for it is only by letting go, that we can escape the clutch of a riptide.
Sterling Silver: Tarnish can occur when it comes in contact with the oxygen in the air. Counterintuitively, the best way to keep your silver from blackening is to touch it and wear it. The oils from your skin add a layer of tarnish resistance. For deep storage, it is best to use an airtight container. If you do see some tarnishing, you can polish it with a jewellery polishing cloth, or if it is very strong we recommend Wright's Silver polish.
Yellow Brass: The high copper content in brass can cause it to darken over time. This is primarily due to a reaction to water and humidity. Some people, depending on their personal PH balance, experience a green colouring to the skin when it comes in contact with brass. This is perfectly safe and is again due to copper, think of it the Stature of Liberty Effect. If you prefer to avoid the dark patina to the metal, try to keep your brass as dry as possible. Don't swim in it and dry it after washing your hands. In humid climates keep the brass in an airtight container or bag with a piece of chalk to absorb moisture. For a bright shine, it is easiest to use a commercial polish like Brasso to restore your piece to its original luster. You can also soak the jewellery in ketchup. The acid in the tomato will help to remove tarnish.
From Ariana: We believe that our jewellery should be worn every day and last a lifetime. Some wear like nicks and scratches and even tarnishing will likely occur with use; It is the nature of the material, and we feel like these marks become part of the memory of the piece, a sign of the ways you have loved it. The jewellery will patina over time, many of our customers love the depth this adds to the metal, but we understand if you want to keep your jewellery bright and shiny. Here are some tips to keep our jewellery looking beautiful.
Our metal is a natural and earth-derived material. It is not plated with metal or plastic coating to keep it from environmental reactions. It will likely change over time, this is the nature of organic materials and we feel it often adds to the character of the piece.
